Principles of the Alexander Technique integrate mind and body awareness in human movement. It is a method that helps restore balance, freedom and ease of movement and improves one’s overall mental and physical functioning. It addresses the fundamental and primary core movements we make in all the activities we do. Students participate consciously in learning how to observe their own movement habits and how to make choices that redirect these habits to allow for more awareness and ease in action.
People study the Alexander Technique for many reasons. Often people come to improve and refine their communication skills, sport or art form such as singing, dancing, playing an instrument, golfing, tennis or running. Others come to alleviate their discomfort from physical concerns such as general poor posture, breathing, loss of voice, neck pain, headache, or hip or knee pain. Others come to find their best alignment when recovering form injury or surgery.
