Breaking news regarding the Balance Arts Center Teacher Training Program! We are now accepting applications for the Balance Arts Center Teacher Training Course. Along with the regular program that follows the academic calendar, the Balance Arts Center is expanding training opportunities to allow members of the academic community to study in an American Society of the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) approved training course. AmSAT now allows students to train within a 5-year period. The Balance Arts Center will be offering a summer session beginning in May 2010. Summer sessions along with additional study period during the year will allow trainees to meet AmSAT’s high standard of Alexander Technique teaching while continuing to work in their academic setting.

The Balance Arts Center Teacher Training Course endeavors to offer the highest standard of teacher training of the Alexander Technique. We strive to create an uplifting and inspiring environment where optimal learning takes place and students can best embody the principles of F. M. Alexander.
Students who complete the course will be skilled in hands on work and knowledgeable about the theory and history of the Technique.  We are committed to helping students understand how they can apply their knowledge to their own areas of interest.
The course will include 1600 hours of instruction over a 3 year period.  The student-teacher ratio will be 5:1 or less.  The course prepares students to apply for acceptance and certification through The American Society of the Alexander Technique. (AmSAT).

The course involves learning the principles of the Alexander Technique both theoretically and practically.

Students who complete the course will be skilled in hands-on work and knowledgeable about the theory and history of the Technique. The consistent work affords students the opportunity to deeply refine their own use. We are committed to helping students understand how they can apply their knowledge to their own areas of interest.

The course will include 1600 hours of instruction over a 3 year period.  The student-teacher ratio will be 5:1 or less.  The course prepares students to apply for acceptance and certification through The American Society of the Alexander Technique. (AmSAT).

CURRICULUM

Areas of focus include:

• the student’s own use
• hands-on work
• movement observation and analysis
• survey and discussion of Alexander’s writings and literature related to the Alexander Technique
• development of teaching and communication skills
• study of basic anatomy and kinesiology
• study and discussion of developmental movement and sensory integration principles
• supervised teaching

The knowledge of the Alexander Technique will be applied to activities such as vocal production, walking/running, office work, public speaking, playing of musical instruments, fitness activities and daily tasks. The course structure includes group classes, private lessons, supervised teaching, observational outings, and readings.

COURSE DETAILS

Teaching Staff: Ann Rodiger is the main teacher for the Balance Arts Center Training Course. All assistants are AmSAT Certified teachers.

Schedule: There will be three 13-week terms per year. Class will meet 4 times per week for 31/2 hours. Each student will receive a private one-hour lesson every two weeks. Special workshops, outings and seminars will be scheduled as part of the 1600 hours. Students can join the class at any time throughout the year.

Fees: Tuition:  $2,600 per trimester / Total tuition cost:  $2,600 X 9 = $23,400 / Tuition is payable at the beginning of each trimester / Students are responsible for purchasing books for the course, approximately $200 per year / Students are responsible for outing ticket fees, approximately $150 per year.
