on people who perform specific tasks such as typing, singing, dancing
or walking. One can learn a great deal about their movement habits in
the class setting. It is often helpful to observe others while working
to increase one's own awareness.

ONGOING CLASSES:
Singers And the Alexander Technique
This class offers an atmosphere of learning where singers can explore how their
body balance and posture connect with and affect their singing. The focus of the
class is on overall body/mind coordination, vocal/ breathing mechanics and anatomy. Common
topics, such as how to maintain a loose and easy tongue and jaw, are addressed.
The class size is limited so that people receive maximum individual
attention and each student's specific needs are addressed.
Students have the opportunity to sing for each other and learn how
their alignment and posture influence their performance presentation.
Students from the Balance Arts Alexander Technique Teacher Training
Course frequently assist during the class which provides additional
skilled hands-on work for the students.
Class Time: Tuesday evenings 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Movement, Balance, and Awareness, A Floor Class
Find your balance and center through an extended session on the floor. Work slowly and carefully to build your awareness of your limbs in relation to your back. Focus on your breathing, ease, coordination, and direction during your movements.
Mondays 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Very Beginning Ballet:
Weekly ballet basics including floor work, barre, adagio, and across the floor based on the Alexander Technique principles. All levels and experience of dance are welcome. Individual attention is given to your own alignment and postural habits. Come join us!

Introduction to the Alexander Technique:
This class will introduce you to the principles and concepts of the Alexander Technique. You will be given hands on work by the Balance Arts Center Teacher Training Course graduates and trainees. Each class will have a specific movement focus such as walking or speaking. Attending multiple introductory classes is useful in having a fuller understanding of what the Alexander Technique has to offer.
Dates: First Tuesday of each month (starting October 2, 2007)
Time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Fee: $20

WORKSHOPS
Sitting Posture for Meditation:
Apply principles of balance, proper breathing, and body alignment to your seated meditation posture. During this workshop you will receive individual instruction on your seated posture as well as specific stretches to help your sitting posture. Periods of meditation will give you a chance to practice your posture. All forms of meditation are welcome. Please bring your own cushion.

Ease Your Office Body Series
This 4 series workshop specifically addresses issues of your body on the job. The principles of the Alexander Technique are applied to four important aspects of your work day. Each session with focus on a specific topic and also include recuperation stretches and relaxation.
Session 1: Your Work Set Up
Make sure your work station is working with you rather than creating excess stress. Look at how to prevent repetitive stress injuries. Sitting and standing don't have to be tiring.
Session 2: Eye Ease
Keep your eyes free from tension and excess strain. The way you use your eyes effects your entire body.
Session 3: Back Pain Relief and Prevention Learn how to save your back from aches, stiffness and general discomfort. Find out how your general alignment contributes to the health of your entire back and spine.
Session 4: Communication
Keep your voice and breathing easy. Discover how to use your breath to keep you steady and calm.
Series I: April 3, 10, 17, 24
Series II: May 1, 8, 15, 22
Series III: May 29, June 5, 12, 19

Thursdays: 6:00 - 7:30 pm.
Fee: $125
Reservations required.
Each series is limited to 10 students so that each student receives maximum individual attention.

Singers' Summer Workshop
We all do what we know and are familiar with, often with thoughts and preconceived ideas we don’t even know we have. As you become clearer about your assumptions of how to be/sing/sound you will discover what is holding you back from your best voice. Your unique mechanism will begin to produce your own sound as you get out of your own way, and allow your voice to emerge.
