on people who perform specific tasks such as typing, singing, dancing
or walking. One can learn a great deal about their movement habits in
the class setting. It is often helpful to observe others while working
to increase one's own awareness.

ONGOING CLASSES:
Alexander Technique Aria Class
Students spend the first part of the class receiving individual attention while working on a concept from the Alexander Technique as it directly applies to singing. The second half of the class works like a Master Class where students sing for each other and receive direct feedback on how to apply principles of the Alexander Technique to their singing while singing for each other.
Class Time: Tuesday evenings 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Balance Arts - A Floor Class
Find your balance and center through an extended session on the floor. Work slowly and carefully to build your awareness of your limbs in relation to your back. Focus on your breathing, ease, coordination, and direction during your movements. The class is useful for movement professionals and community members alike who want to improve balance, coordination, and strengthen their movements.
Ann Rodiger developed the Balance Arts Floor Class to present movement through the lens of the Alexander Technique. She has combined her knowledge and experience of the Alexander Technique for over 25 years, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Feldenkrais, Yoga and various dance techniques in creating the class.
Please note that time will be given at the end of each class to integrate what you have learned to standing and walking. Bring your own mat if you prefer.

Very Beginning Ballet:
Weekly ballet basics including floor work, barre, adagio, and across the floor based on the Alexander Technique principles. All levels and experience of dance are welcome. Individual attention is given to your own alignment and postural habits. Come join us!

Introduction to the Alexander Technique:
This class will introduce you to the principles and concepts of the Alexander Technique. You will be given hands on work by the Balance Arts Center Teacher Training Course graduates and trainees. Each class will have a specific movement focus such as walking or speaking. Attending multiple introductory classes is useful in having a fuller understanding of what the Alexander Technique has to offer.
Class Time : Tuesdays 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Fee: $25/class

Speaking, Singing and Making Sound: Voice for Dancers
This workshop is tailored specifically for dancers wishing to develop vocal skills for performance range. You will learn how to use your voice well through principles of the Alexander Technique; how your breath and whole body participate in speaking, singing, and making sound; learn how knowledge of good vocal technique can enhance your balance and movement experience. Bring your questions and concerns about speaking and singing. No prior vocal experience necessary.

Certificate of Study Program in the Alexander Technique for Singing Teachers
This study program will apply the theory and practice of the Alexander Technique to the teaching of singing. Class time will include lecture, discussion, and practical application of the concepts and principles presented.
The following will be introduced in this course:
• concepts and vocabulary of the Alexander Technique
• observation skills
• anatomy, body mapping
• guiding a student’s thinking and intention

Level 1: 12 hours. 9 classroom hours and two 45-minute private sessions.
Dates: July 30, 31, August 1, 2009. (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
Times: 10 am to 1 pm group classes. Private sessions will be scheduled at the convenience of the students and teachers.

Fee: $350
