Foundations of a Self Practice in the Alexander Technique

This live online course will lead you through a cumulative process of learning and embodying the Alexander Technique. As we move through the course you’ll gain insight into how you can work with your body so that it supports what you do and how you move. Each class will include interactive teachings, guided practices, practical application, and group discussion. You will also receive weekly assignments that offer support and guidance to integrate the work between classes and strengthen your own practice.

Course Overview:

Week 1: Basics of awareness in our mind & body connection.

Week 2: How to use a “pause” - a powerful key in the “What do I do with all this awareness?” 

Week 3: The Moving Body Part 1 

  • Anatomy and kinesiology of the moving body as it applies to you.

  • Strategies for improving balance, breathing, groundedness, coordination, sustainable posture, and flow.

  • Embodying a process for discovering, exploring, and reinforcing supportive habits in your mind-body coordination.

Week 4: The Moving Body Part 2

  • Strategies for working with pain and discomfort in the body.

  • Practical application to specific activities, movements, and your interests.

  • Continued exploration of embodying the AT process and reinforcing supportive, new habits.

Week 5: Putting it all together! Synthesis of the practice, the process, how to track your progress, and how to continue the work on your own.
