Virtual Alexander Technique Group Class Series 1: Know Your Body - How You Move

  • Balance Arts Center 151 West 30th Street New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

A Series on the Alexander Technique. Four weeks at a time. One class at a time.

What if the way you move, breathe, and hold yourself is the very thing getting in your way — and also the key to feeling better in everything you do?

The Alexander Technique is a practice of awareness and choice. It helps you notice the habits and gives you real tools to change them — not through force, but through understanding.

This ongoing series explores a different aspect of the Technique each month, through themes that are practical, embodied, and immediately useful. Whether you're a performer, someone dealing with pain, completely new to AT, or a longtime student, each series offers fresh perspectives and something to take home.

Drop in for one class. Stay for the whole series. Start anywhere.

Series 1: Know Your Body —  How You Move

We all live in our bodies every day, and yet most of us have never really met them. This series is an honest, curious, and tour of how you actually move — not how you think you move.

Week 1: The Big Picture — A guided scan of your whole self in motion. Where are you holding? Where are you free? This is about curiosity, not correction.
Week 2: Head & Neck — Explore the relationship between your head, your spine, and your sense of ease That comes from “taking the lid off.”
Week 3:  Hips — The great unknown!  We look at how the hips help organize movement — and what happens when they don't.
Week 4 Hips, Knees & Ankles — How the lower body works as a team. Find out how all the joints work, support each other, and are your gateway to being grounded.

Class Fee: $20
